The only two British participants were Irish athletes John Daly (steeplechase) and Thomas Kiely. At the time of the Olympic Games Ireland was not an independent nation.

The two Austrian participants (Julius Lenhart (gymnastics) and Otto Wahle (swimming)) lived in the United States. Lenhart played for the team of the United States.
