The twelfth Olympic Games in 1940 would take place in Tokyo. But in 1937, Japan strated the attack on China. The organizing committee gave the right to organize the Olympic Games on November 22, 1939 officially back to the IOC. Helsinki was then appointed, where the Games would take place from July 20 to August 4, 1940. The IOC canceled the games because of the outbreak of World War II.
