Skeleton is a member of the bobsleigh family by which the rider lies, head first, on a one metre long sleigh which is equipped with one pair of sliding blades. The rider steers by means of shifting his weight and iron spikes which are attached to his shoes, these also function as breaks.
Skeleton was a predecessor of the modern luge run.
